She fed him and did some training but Aero was young and had some abuse experiences. Micheline’s daughter, Savanah, purchased him from this young lady when he was three. Aero's purpose was to be a trailer buddy for Savanah's horse, Scout. After much training, she found Scout didn't need a buddy so she donated Aero to RYYR. Since then, Aero has been in training to pull a cart. He is a spunky little mini that has unique coloring with a black face and piercing blue eyes. Aero is shy and nervous from the past abuse he suffered. If you work with Aero, slower body movement encourages him to relax. He is very willing to please and with time, he will come around. Aero’s best friend is Reuben. He is intelligent and spunky, and enjoys romping with his friend Aero and climbing on rocks. He is training to pull a cart and is quick to learn tricks like pushing a ball. Everyone that meets him LOVES him! This is why we named him Reuben: When Micheline (Co-founder of RYYR) was young, she and her family (5 siblings and her Mom) were sponsored to America by a church in Annandale, Virginia, they could not find anywhere to rent. No one wanted to rent to a single mom with 6 kids. A deacon of the church that sponsored them stepped up and purchased a home down the street from the church. His name was Reuben Johnson and he was in his 60s! At an age when people are retiring and have to live on a fixed income, this man showed the love of Christ by purchasing a home so her family had somewhere to live. These sisters were donated to the ranch when they really weren't being used. The owner thought they'd be a good fit for RYYR. They are great for pony rides & have had some training with pulling a cart. They are both spunky and eager to move. Scarlet responds well to a consistent, firm handler who requires her focus and engages her sharp mind. His previous owner had purchased him at a horse auction when he was only 18 months old. The ranch owned Sid for a few years before our beloved volunteer, Marilyn, adopted him. She wanted to adopt Sid, but for him to continue to be a ranch horse. Sid loves attention from the kids and is a calm, quiet ride. Rolo was rescued from a bad situation by the same girl who Savanah got Aero from. He was rescued out of a large breeding operation that had over 100 large livestock crammed into one small barn. He was head shy so required patience and gentleness from those working with him, but has come around and now loves people! He requires a firm but gentle hand to lead and be brushed, but has proved very sweet and willing, with a wild streak when he sees an opportunity to run and play! In addition to it being a crazy pandemic year, we were plagued with multiple horse lameness issues and the loss of Prince moving to Ohio. As we asked the Lord for wisdom as to what to do, he quickly revealed Felix to us and we acted quickly. Praise God for his blessings! He knows all our needs before we even know. When looking Felix over, you can’t miss his draft build. You can see his thick neck, legs, hind quarters and there’s no way you can miss his huge feet! He’s even got the signature docked tail. He is the sweetest, most curious horse but can be lippy because of this curiosity. His racing name was Classic Heath. He is owned by our faithful volunteer Rosemaree, who is retraining him for his new job as her personal horse and also sharing him with the ranch! He loves to prance and run with his tail cocked in the air, showing his love of life and exuberance. He can also be a bit lazy, enjoying more slow paced walks - probably why he wasn’t really interested in racing. He is young but has shown a desire to learn and always tries to figure it out when given a new task to learn. Finnegan also loves to explore things - especially new items - around the ranch. Dexter likes to sunbathe, and is very mischievous. You put something down, he will pick it up and play with it. Hose, buckets, rake, you name it! Dexter is lively and interactive, and provides opportunities for further learning for more experienced program participants. Liberty is extremely alert and wants to please you. She is branded on her front right shoulder with an upside-down K/T. Ranches across the USA will brand their horses to help owners identify where they have been or where they came from. We have been searching to find out about Liberty’s brand but have not been successful yet. Liberty can be anxious sometimes as she has little confidence in herself. The more you stay calm, focused, and consistent, the more confident she becomes. Liberty also loves a good session of groundwork. She has a long strided trot which makes for a bouncy ride, so hang on! Oakley went through multiple owners and one auction that we know of before his current owner Calen acquired him. In November 2021, Oakley was taken to the Cleveland Equine Clinic to diagnose some physical health issues. We found out he was carrying an extremely contagious respiratory infection that could kill horses with weak immune systems. He was put in quarantine in his stall at the ranch, completely isolated from the other horses, then transported to Galbreath Equine Center as OSU for the only treatment option, surgery. Oakley came home a week later, and multiple trips to Cleveland and a few negative test results later, he was finally out of quarantine! Oakley has come a long way and is finally feeling better than he has in years. Calen enjoys spending time with Oakley and they have developed a close connection and strong bond. While Oakley has continued health regulations to follow, he is now healthy enough to be a program horse! She is adjusting to a more relaxed horse life at the ranch well with much help from her owner, Rachel, who has invested significant time into retraining Maeve and encouraging her loving nature. Maeve gets anxious at times but does well with a caring and consistent handler. She really enjoys being brushed and scratched and just hanging out with her people. Rachel rides Maeve both western and English, and Maeve is very versatile and curious to investigate new things. She loves to play and be silly but also loves being quiet and relaxing with you. She is very willing to try but needs patience and convincing of what she’s capable of sometimes. Currently she is used for ranch programs groundwork and ride at a walk only as she continues learning her new job as a ranch horse. Maeve has one of the sweetest personalities you will find at the ranch. He is mischievous and proves to be an energetic & playful pasture mate, however he is slow and steady when riding. Most people recognize him from far away due to his mesmerizing coat coloring. Unfortunately, abuse is part of her life history. Phoebe loves visitors but can be reserved at times. She can still be unsure of people but is willing and wants to be able to trust you. She is highly food motivated and very talkative to the other horses. We are currently working on socializing Phoebe in a positive way to encourage her to come out of her shyness. She really is a sweet and cute pony! The sister of one of RYYR’s dedicated volunteers was devastated when diagnosed with pancreatitis cancer. At the time everything was so touch & go for the family and there was a lot of unsurety. She also owned a horse, Coupe. They quickly realized that he would need to find a new home. Our volunteer quickly realized that she would be Coupe’s new owner. When Coupe came to the ranch he was also dealing with cancer, a small growth near his eye. After many treatments and an operation, Coupe was cancer free. His owner passed away shortly after finding out her horse was finally cancer free. Coupe now resides at the ranch as a program horse in memory of Pamela Licht. Cassidy has made so much improvement while at the ranch and was such a good fit for the program that her owner has let her stay and become part of the herd. She came to us a little untrusting but has greatly improved. Her size makes her perfect for kids who are leery of a high horse but too big for the minis. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/558c0814e4b0aeae75bc8f44/1575331265724-49LHM1ONHS2UMKOI5R7P/Calvin.jpg Our Horses - CALVIN - moving to retirement home 9/25/25 (Born 2004) Calvin is a Thoroughbred gelding who began life as a racehorse, from 2007 to 2012 earning $113,218 (which is very successful for a racehorse). His race name is “Call Me Cal”. RYYR acquired Calvin from an organization that leases horses out to various summer camps. When we went to this organization to look at another horse, Calvin was standing nearby, with his head down acting lethargic and was severely underweight. The owner mentioned that the person that was leasing him did not feed him like they agreed to, which led to the organization taking him back. She knew about our ranch and offered him to us as a free lease. We had been praying for a taller horse for the taller kids that come to our program, maybe Calvin was what God had in mind for us? He came to the ranch, gained weight and flourished. Since he has received proper nutrition, Calvin’s personality has changed. It is such a joy to see him running with his head high and playing with the other geldings. He is quirky, yet devoted to those to take the time to listen to his needs. He was given to the ranch by a woman who loves him dearly but wasn’t in a position to keep him. She wanted him to be well cared for and loved. He’s stellar at standing around and soaking up attention - perfect for large groups brushing and painting! He’s also become a favorite of a few youth who enjoy bareback rides on his comfy wide back. Amos means “burden bearer” or “borne by God”, a task he’s carrying out both physically and emotionally as he joins our programs, working to share God’s hope and healing with those who have heavy burdens. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/558c0814e4b0aeae75bc8f44/1709128645165-6OV9BVVSKMT1RA9DDW92/luna.jpg Our Horses - LUNA (Born 2003) Luna is a thoroughbred mare who began life as a racehorse, then ended up in a bad situation which led to poor health including an infection in her eye. A rescue in Edinboro, PA got ahold of Luna and began necessary care which involved having to remove Luna’s left eye after the infection was no longer able to be treated with medicine, she was 9 years old at the time. Luna spent years at the rescue until she found her previous owner. In January 2023, her owner reached out to the ranch to donate Luna as she no longer had time for Luna. She came back to the ranch in January and since then we have been working with her to ease her anxiety and energy. Luna has a wonderful, sweet personality. She is not able to see on her left side, yet so gentle and patient with the kiddos and is still capable of being ridden. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/558c0814e4b0aeae75bc8f44/1701969155549-AHJ7R6VL7H087NVLN3BZ/image-asset.jpeg Our Horses - LOUISE (2007-2025) This beautiful dapple grey Percheron mare was donated to the ranch in fall 2023 by a woman from Harrisville who was looking for a non-profit program that could use her. All the pieces fell into place perfectly: Oreo retired, leaving space for “Cottonwood” to live in our run-in; Micheline had been longing for another draft horse since the loss of Lazarus in 2021; and she had the desire to name the next draft in honor of her beloved mother-in-law Marian Louise Barkley, who passed away in April 2023. The Lord knew the ranch would need a mare to be able to call her “Louise” so He made it happen! Louise was sweet as can be, and loved face rubs and meeting people. She served as a program horse from October 2023-August 2025, when she became very ill with peritonitis and spent 3 days at Cleveland Equine Clinic for treatment. She was much loved and loved her people, shown by the dozen or more volunteers and youth that visited her at the clinic, driving hours to see her. The vets called her an angel throughout treatment, but seeing her condition decline planned to send her home to the ranch Wednesday morning, if she survived until then, to be euthanized by our local vet after having a chance to see her horse and people friends. With many people praying for her, Louise shocked us all by dramatically improving over Tuesday night and came home Wednesday much more lively and thrilled to see everyone who’d come to say goodbye! With her stable vitals indicating comfort and her enthusiasm for grazing returning, we decided to give her as much time as she wanted. Over the next few days God blessed us with time with this sweet girl, and even healed her gut, surprising us with her passing manure after 5 days without any! She munched grass, drank and played in water as she so loved, and was cared for by a community of volunteers until she passed away in the night on August 25th. She is a Palomino, however, because she is spotted, she is called a Dappled Palomino. She was a show horse experienced in Western and English classes winning many ribbons and contests. But she (and Romeo, who since has been adopted) had to be removed from her owner's custody when she was neglected and rescued by another organization in 2015. Once she and Romeo were back to good health, Hog Heaven spread the word that they were looking for a good home for both. When they first arrived at RYYR in January 2016, their names were Cody & Lollipop. They were very herd bound to each other, perpetually calling out to one another from their stalls and pacing in the stalls as well, thus we named them Romeo and Juliet. Today, Juliet has a special gentleness with people, though she can be ornery with other horses! She loves being groomed and is easy to lead or bathe. Juliet is a great beginner horse as long as the lead line is connected, however once she is in work mode, she is very active and forward under saddle. We are looking for an adoptive home for Concho! He is a quiet, people-loving 20 year old Quarter Horse who is essentially blind, but was a Special Olympics and pony ride horse prior to coming to the ranch. He has good ground manners, stands for the farrier and baths, and loves to be groomed. Concho had one eye removed in summer of 2023 due to uveitis, with hopes to use him as a program horse or find him a suitable home. However, shortly after, he developed a cataract in his other eye, and has become mostly blind. He is able to navigate clear areas with fencing or walls that don’t move when he pushes against them to find the edges of his area, and is uncertain about other horses, but may be able to work with a calm and gentle buddy. He was owned and loved by Kayla Wallace prior to becoming a ranch horse. Over the years, he has developed an allergy to molasses and has COPD so Kayla retired him and he was loving life in a field, eating all day long. When Kayla heard our program was growing so fast and we needed some lesson horses, she kindly volunteered Oreo's services. Thus Oreo has come out of retirement. He wasn't crazy about it at first but has settled into his job of a lesson horse and soaks up all the attention he gets at the ranch. He is adored by volunteers and lavished with so much love. His owner contacted us when Tyler had suffered a leg injury and needed stall rest for one full year. The boarding cost was incredibly expensive and the owner could no longer afford it. The owner did not want to sell him as she was afraid that he would not get the rest for recovery. Afraid that he would be pushed and continually re-injured, she had made an appointment to have the Veterinarian come euthanize him on Monday. She then heard about our ranch and on the Friday before, called us to inquire about donating him. There was little time for deliberation We decided to accept Tyler on Saturday and on Sunday, made the ten hour journey to pick him up. A Warmblood is a draft horse crossed with a standard sized horse such as a thoroughbred or quarter horse. Needless to say, Tyler is quite stout. He’s not tall, only 15.2 hands but he’s built like a tank with the sweetest disposition. Tyler has the ability to work with beginners and the smallest children while taking care that they stay safe and happy, while also having the skills to teach more advanced learners. His gentleness and honesty are remarkable, and he LOVES being hugged and loved on. Tyler has been struggling with old and new injuries (mainly from growing older and still loving to frolic with his friends in the pasture!), so has retired from ranch program work to rest and relax at a pace that keeps him healthy and able to move about. He still loves to be lead on walks and be brushed and bathed though! Her color is considered a dark bay in the horse world but everyone says she's black. She was a donation to our ranch from the Berg family. Athena was not being used often enough so the family wanted her to go to a place where she had a job and someone could benefit from her experience. When Athena first came, she was stubborn, a little unruly and rude from lack of human interaction. It didn't take long before she fell into line with all our ranch horses. She now loves being brushed (especially the treats afterwards) and is a great trail horse. As she’s grown older, Athena’s arthritis has made it more and more difficult for her to keep up with ranch life. In October, she will be moving to a retirement home where she can live out in a field (with past ranch rescues Dancer and Romeo) and enjoy the occasional trail ride as her health permits. We received her as one of a pair from Personal Ponies. Personal Ponies is a national non-profit for the rescue and placement of minis and ponies. Zeba and Latte were living in Illinois with a family that had adopted children with a variety of disabilities. Both ponies were instrumental in helping the children with various issues such as balance and fear. Latte was adopted by a volunteer, but Zeba stayed on at the ranch teaching many young children over the years. As she got older her allergies worsened, so she moved in retirement with a family who could take care of her needs. They showered her with love and gave her the best care possible. On August 19, 2022 our dear Zeba completed her service here on this earth. After lots of different respiratory treatments, therapies & time, she was unable to recover from an illness. This little lady touched many souls while serving at RYYR. We were blessed to have the time that we did with her. Zeba was the sweetest horse and just had such a lovely glow about her. It is with great sadness that we tell you that Lazarus big body could no longer hold out. We know that he had a wonderful year and a half with us. In all things we rejoice and thank the Lord for the gift of his life. He is at peace. Lazarus was a Percheron gelding who was given his name en route to the ranch in January 2020, after he fell down in the trailer and became cast. Micheline tells the story: “This horse whom I had named Levi, short for Leviathan, spent over three hours down - most of the time this means death. Over the course of three hours he tried getting up so many times but kept falling back down until he was exhausted and began to give up. With his mouth slack, Levi lay flat out on his side and closed his eyes. He was giving up! Even I had given up hope! Even the vet had started talking about "options." It was dark and we were all freezing. I had been praying since the moment we pulled over. Angrily, I looked skyward and shouted at God, "You called me to do this ministry! You took Pansie last year! WHY WHY WHY would you let this happen?!!!!!!!!!" John 9:3 "…but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me.“ All hope was gone but my GOD was not! He was there the whole time even when I couldn’t feel him! When I asked him to show me he was there....LEVI SHOT UP OFF THE GROUND! I witnessed a MIRACLE this night!!!!! I wish you all could have been there! She is sweet and patient and loves little kids and lots of attention. Tula has experience in mounted shooting and gaming, and enjoys obstacle courses. If you want to be her friend, she loves having her withers scratched and hates people pulling on her face when leading or riding. (Born 2001) Dream is a registered AQHA & registered international Buckskin Association mare who came to us when her owner was unable to provide the time needed to work with and ride her. We free leased Dream and Sid for a short term and when the owner could no longer keep them, we were blessed to be able to keep them for our program. She is a sweet girl who loves quiet, gentle attention and will fall asleep in your hands while being groomed. He nearly died the stormy night he was born, and it took the work of two vets over two days to save him - thus his name full name is Zipbeaustormiechance because God gave him a second chance. He’s a boarder whose owner knew how much he LOVES kids and hugs and kisses, and how friendly and playful he is, so volunteered him for the ranch. She’s a boarder whose owner thought with her sweet nature and love of hugs, she’d be great for mentoring kids. His is a boarder who belongs to Kate the daughter of our faithful volunteer Ann. Kate was attending college, and since she wouldn't have the time to ride him much generously offered the ranch full use of him. Now that she has settled, she is reuniting with her horse, moving him to a barn close to her home. Indy (adopted May 2020) proved to have more desire to GO than we could satisfy in our program, so found a new home with wide open fields and riders who can continue working with him, enjoying his big personality. The neighbor next door saw she was losing weight and contacted a friend who found us online. Remi was owned by an elderly man who had moved to Arizona eight years prior, having left Remi and another horse in the care of his nephew. The other horse died two years prior to when we rescued Remi, so she was unhandled by humans for eight years and without a herd for the last two. We were able to track the owner down in AZ and he signed over ownership of Remi to us, and we are now looking for a quiet retirement home for her. We estimate she’s in her mid-twenties. We knew she was blind in one eye when we got her, and her years of hard wear show. Remi gets very attached to other horses, so when she is away from them, she gets stressed and can be unpredictable and difficult to handle. She has a few volunteers she’s grown to love, and can be very sweet with the people she trusts. Remi found a home in January 2020 with a kind farm family in Ohio, where she is able to run free with cattle and goats and enjoy a peaceful life.
